Day 38 - July 31 Train to Yogjakarta
Hi folks! Today we got up early from the apartment to catch a 8 AM train from Gambir station in central Jakarta. We know this station all too well as we spent six hours in it on our trip to Bandung. Fortunately, things went very smoothly this time. One interesting note was that the taxi driver's meter was 22,000 Rupiah (less than $2) but kept saying he needed 100,000 Rupiah for "parking". I have paid for many a taxi's parking fees and I have not seen more than 9,000 ... so that did not end well for him. I normally tip well - he shouldn't have tried that.
The trip went well. It was an eight hour train trip across more than half of the island of Java (see the map above). We all had time to think and rest and we saw some amazing scenery. I will upload some pictures below, but they really don't begin to convey the majesty of this place. I am really glad we planned out the trip this way so we can slowly absorb Indonesia.
Tomorrow we will go to see two of the major temples in the area - Borobudur and Prambanan. Thanks for stopping by!
